Keyboarding sites [EdTech]
· BBC has the fun Dance Mat Typing for elementary students. It has four levels and 12 stages for basic keyboarding practice.
· Glencoe’s Online Keyboarding is an online typing tutor that is divided into 16 individual typing lessons (from home keys and space bar to symbols). Each lesson includes a demonstration movie, typing exercises, a drill, and a printable lesson report.
· PowerTyping.com lets the user set a words-per-minute goal for each lesson. One interesting feature of this site is the radio player at the bottom to encourage a rhythmic pattern while typing. It also includes a series of five typing games to make this learning more fun.
· Keybr.com lets you practice typing full words and sentences. You can choose to practice typing random words or made-up words, custom text, or text from any website. It shows the student’s speed, errors, as well as the keys which need more practice.
Typing Test Online, from the company that put out the popular Typing Master, measures words per minute, typing speed, and register typing errors. It is a great way to measure student progress and improvement. Test length can be set to from one to three minutes and you can also choose from eight other languages you wish to use for typing.
